Lagos man killed by mob following alleged hit-and-run

A man identified as Basit was beaten to death by a mob in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State following an alleged hit-and-run incident. The victim had recently returned to Nigeria from abroad to prepare for his wedding, which was scheduled to take place in approximately two weeks.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred on a Wednesday night in the Patey area. It is alleged that Basit struck a male resident who was attempting to cross the road with his vehicle and subsequently drove away. Residents pursued the vehicle and caught up with him, at which point the mob attacked him with weapons, including sticks and bottles.

Basit sustained severe head injuries and lost consciousness before passing away. A police source confirmed that several suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the killing, and the deceased has been moved to a morgue.
