Lagos maritime security strengthened through equipment donations and naval expansion
Security agencies and maritime authorities in Lagos are intensifying efforts to protect the city's waterways and economic corridors. The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has renewed its commitment to maritime policing through a donation of tactical gear to the Maritime Police Command, including 30 ballistic helmets, 30 bulletproof vests, 30 pairs of operational boots, and 30 raincoats. The LSSTF also pledged to provide a new patrol pickup vehicle within one month to support officers securing the coastal environment.
Simultaneously, the Western Naval Command (WNC) has expanded its operational reach through increased collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and private sector entities such as the Dangote Group. Recent naval developments include the delivery of the Tug Commander Francis Kolawole, a vessel built in China designed to enhance harbor and fleet-support operations. These combined efforts aim to secure the ports, creeks, and industrial corridors essential to the regional economy.
