Lagos Maritime Summit to focus on innovation and digital reforms

The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) will host its 2026 Maritime Training Summit in Lagos on September 4. Under the theme ‘The Power of Innovation in a Future-Ready Maritime Training Agenda’, the event aims to address skills gaps and enhance Nigeria’s blue economy through technology and continuous professional development.

Key discussions will focus on maritime workforce development, artificial intelligence, automation, and the digitalization of ports. A central feature of the summit will be a presentation by Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, regarding the use of cutting-edge innovations to bolster national economic security.

The summit will examine how technological reforms, such as the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS) and the National Single Window initiative, impact trade facilitation, revenue collection, and border management. Stakeholders including policymakers, maritime professionals, and technology experts are expected to attend to discuss aligning maritime education with global industry needs.
