Lagos Mini Football League Launches with 30 Teams to Boost Grassroots Sport

The Lagos State Mini Football Association announced that its inaugural mini‑football league will begin on August 1, featuring 30 grassroots teams – 20 men’s sides and 10 women’s sides – across three venues in Agege. Chairman Hon. Abdul‑Ganiyu Vinod Obasa said the competition has no age limit and aims to develop talent, with plans to select a squad for the Women’s Mini Football AFCON in September. Vice‑Chairman Sheriff Tajudeen highlighted the league’s role in promoting six‑a‑side football in Lagos, a city regarded as a major sporting hub in Nigeria.

Separately, McAnthony Anuforo Amaelechukwu, Director of Sports for Ajeromi‑Ifelodun Local Government, urged grassroots football coaches and players to prioritize regular health check‑ups, citing the recent death of Coach Osahon Emokpae as a cautionary example. Amaelechukwu emphasized early detection of ailments to sustain participation in sport and protect lives.
