Lagos police arrest eight motorcycle riders after enforcement clash
Eight motorcycle taxi riders have been arrested in Lagos following a clash with the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit. The arrests occurred in the Apongbon-Marina area after riders allegedly attacked enforcement officers with machetes, cutlasses, and broken bottles while officers were attempting to seize motorcycles.
During questioning, some suspects admitted to operating on restricted routes despite previous impoundments, citing profitability as the motivation. The Task Force leader, CSP Adetayo Akerele, stated that the suspects had been under surveillance following complaints from residents and elderly citizens regarding the riders' aggressive behavior toward uniformed officers and the potential danger posed to pedestrians and schoolchildren.
