Lagos police arrest five suspects for telecommunications vandalism

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five individuals suspected of vandalizing telecommunications infrastructure in the Ibeju-Lekki area. During the operation, authorities recovered a truckload of suspected stolen iron rods.

The suspects, identified as Mohammed Shaibu, 26; Musa Zakari, 29; Abdullahi Bala, 22; Salisu Musa, 18; and Yahuza Bala, 20, were allegedly caught while transporting iron poles intended for the construction of telecommunication masts. The suspects are currently in custody, and the case is being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba.

Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi noted that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene and to determine the full scope of the group's activities. The operation was supported by the Nigerian Army's 81 Division. Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai reaffirmed the command's commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and urged residents to report suspicious activities.
