Lagos Police Arrest Six Liberians in Human Trafficking Visa Scam

The Lagos State Police Command detained six Liberian nationals – one woman and five men aged 21 to 40 – at Gberigbe in the Ikorodu area. They are accused of operating a syndicate that lured victims from Liberia to Nigeria with promises of visas, work permits and residency in Canada and the United Kingdom. The scheme collected large sums of money, seized passports on arrival, and held the victims in a hotel before moving them to a rented apartment where they were pressured to recruit others into a networking business.

Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for a comprehensive probe. The investigation is being led by the Delta Force Anti‑Robbery Unit under Deputy Commissioner Dayo Akinbisehin. A victim who realized the deception reported the crime, leading police to rescue her and arrest the suspects. Authorities say they continue to pursue additional members of the syndicate.
