Lagos Police arrest suspect and detain officers following viral videos

The Lagos State Police Command has taken separate disciplinary and legal actions following two incidents captured on video.

In one incident at Victoria Island, 33-year-old Victor Ebhomenyen was arrested for allegedly assaulting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Erhator Sunday. Police reports state the assault occurred near the Four Point Hotel in Oniru after the suspect was stopped for driving against traffic. While social media accounts suggested the officers sought bribes, the police command maintains that the suspect and others violently attacked the officers, causing severe bodily injuries to ASP Sunday.

In a separate matter in Ikorodu, the Lagos State Police Command has detained four officers and disbanded the Imota/Immortal Tactical Team. The action follows viral footage showing officers allegedly harassing a young man in Odogunyan. Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the officers are being held at the headquarters in Ikeja pending disciplinary procedures, noting that the Commissioner of Police has issued a warning against misconduct and abuse of authority.
