Lagos police detain Chinese national over alleged sexual assault

The Lagos State Police Command has detained a Chinese national, identified as Bai Quang, following allegations of sexual assault and repeated unwanted sexual advances toward a Nigerian employee, Charles Nwafor.

According to police reports, Nwafor petitioned authorities alleging that Quang subjected him to persistent advances and attempted to force him into sexual acts. The complainant further alleged that the suspect physically assaulted him by pulling down his trousers and touching his private parts without consent. It is also reported that Quang invited Nwafor to a hotel under the guise of a business discussion in an attempt to compel sexual activity, and subsequently terminated Nwafor's employment after the advances were rejected.

Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for a comprehensive investigation. The matter is being handled by the Diplomatic/Foreign Nationals Section of the SCID. Authorities are reportedly taking steps to notify the Chinese Embassy regarding the detention in accordance with standard procedures for foreign nationals.
