Lagos police face scrutiny over detention of two minors
The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has called for the consolidation of all police files regarding businessman Timothy Chika Odoh, following reports that two minors are being held in police custody.
Chinedu Eyah, 16, and Kosisochukwu Onojo, 15, were reportedly taken to Odoh’s residence after transporting inverter batteries. RULAAC alleges that while an officer identified Odoh as the person of interest, the two teenagers remain in detention. This has raised legal concerns regarding Section 36 of the Nigeria Police Act 2020 and the Lagos State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, both of which prohibit arresting individuals in place of a suspect.
