Lagos authorities arrest man following viral toddler abuse video
The Lagos State Government has confirmed the arrest of a man in Ikorodu following the circulation of a viral video showing him repeatedly beating a toddler with a charger cable. The footage, which depicted the man striking the child on the head and body due to alleged academic struggles, sparked widespread public outrage across Nigeria.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) activated its response protocol after receiving reports and establishing contact with the child’s mother. The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue. The child and her mother have been referred to a General Hospital for medical assessment and treatment. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) is also working with security agencies to ensure the perpetrator is prosecuted.
In a separate incident in the Ijede area of Ikorodu, police are investigating the death of a man identified as Tosin. Tosin, who had traveled from Ondo State for an event, was reported missing on September 15. His body was later discovered floating in a river. Authorities are investigating whether the death was the result of a robbery and attack by hoodlums.
