Lagos reports 1,409 road crashes and 670 rescues in nine months
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported responding to 1,409 road traffic crashes and rescuing 670 victims over a nine-month period.
According to agency spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA operatives perform preliminary assessments, facilitate rescues, implement traffic diversions, and work to prevent secondary collisions. These interventions are intended to alleviate congestion and ensure emergency agencies have unhindered access to accident sites.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration with groups such as the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and the Lagos State Ambulance Service. He urged motorists, commercial operators, and pedestrians to obey traffic signals, observe speed limits, and report road obstructions or crashes promptly to improve overall road safety.
