Lagos State announces ₦200 billion bond and electricity sector review

The Lagos State Government is advancing several economic and infrastructure initiatives. The state plans to launch a ₦200 billion bond issuance as part of a larger ₦1 trillion debt and hybrid instruments programme. According to Comercio Partners Capital Limited, the proceeds from this Series 5 bond are intended to fund priority infrastructure projects, including hospital constructions, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority’s Blue Line rail development, and the Omu Creek Bridge.

In the energy sector, the state is preparing to review private investment opportunities and participation in the electricity market. This assessment follows the enactment of the Lagos State Electricity Law, 2024. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will host the second Lagos Energy Summit in November 2026 to discuss the implementation of the law, focusing on renewable energy, electricity infrastructure, and decentralized generation to foster a sustainable electricity market.
