Lagos State announces infrastructure upgrades and drainage maintenance
The Lagos State government has launched an infrastructure renewal program aimed at upgrading 56 roads and reconstructing Massey Children's Hospital. As part of the Lagos Island Area North Action Plan, strategic projects include the reconstruction of the 2.2km Adeniji Adele road and the 1.069km Tapa street to provide access to the new hospital.
To mitigate flood risks identified in the 2026 Annual Flood Outlook, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the dredging and maintenance of 28 additional primary drainage channels. The Governor emphasized the need for resilient infrastructure and proper design standards to withstand environmental pressures and rapid urbanization.
During the 24th International Civil Engineering Conference, Sanwo-Olu urged the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers to provide practical recommendations for improving public safety and infrastructure delivery. He noted that the state's 2026 budget allocates approximately ₦2.3 trillion for capital expenditure to support economic activities and improve quality of life.
