Lagos State High Court judge orders arrest of suspected fake lawyer
A judge at the Lagos State High Court ordered the immediate arrest of a man suspected of impersonating a legal practitioner during a court session. The individual, who was wearing full legal regalia including a wig and gown, had appeared in court to represent a client.
Upon questioning the man's credentials, the judge ordered police to apprehend him and directed him to remove his legal attire. The situation escalated when the suspect allegedly attempted to flee the courtroom following the arrest order.
This incident follows a recent conviction in the Ikeja area of the Lagos State High Court, where a 55-year-old man, John Nwawuto Anoruo, was found guilty of impersonating a lawyer and using a counterfeit Nigerian Bar Association seal. Anoruo was sentenced to pay fines totaling ₦270,000 and forfeit forged materials to the Federal Government.
