Lagos State House of Assembly forms committee to recover government assets

The Lagos State House of Assembly has established an eight-member ad hoc committee to identify, document, and facilitate the recovery of government-owned assets. The committee is tasked with assessing the status of both documented and undocumented properties to ensure all state assets are accounted for and effectively utilized.

Committee chairman Obafemi Saheed stated that the initiative is part of the assembly’s oversight role to promote accountability and prudent management of public resources. The committee is authorized to scrutinize government expenditure and monitor the use of public funds. Saheed noted that the committee possesses the power to subpoena individuals and may seek approval to issue arrest warrants for those who fail to comply with proceedings.

Several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have already appeared before the committee, including the Lagos State New Town Development Authority (NTDA), the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), and the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). The committee has urged all remaining MDAs to submit requested documents and appear as scheduled to avoid legislative action.
