Lagos State implements mandatory health insurance and public service reforms
Lagos State has issued Certificates of Compliance to 63 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for meeting requirements under the state’s mandatory social health insurance scheme. The Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, announced that MDAs failing to achieve full compliance must do so by November 30, 2026. The Executive Order, signed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, aims to strengthen health coverage through the ILERA EKO scheme in alignment with the National Health Insurance Authority Act.
Compliance requires MDAs to enroll all staff categories, including non-pensionable workers, and to provide proof of enrollment to access government services. To ensure adherence, the state has established a 26-member enforcement team that has already conducted baseline assessments of 134 MDAs.
In a separate initiative to improve governance, Governor Sanwo-Olu addressed the second cohort of the Public Service Accelerator Programme. He challenged 100 graduates to apply innovation and technology to their respective ministries to improve institutional responsiveness and service delivery to citizens.
