Lagos State launches central archive for land records
The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a central archive for land records to modernize its land administration and urban planning capabilities. The facility will house both electronic and hard-copy documents, serving as a key component of the state’s transition from fragmented physical records to an integrated digital system.
As part of this initiative, the state is institutionalizing the Lagos Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) to consolidate various geospatial initiatives under a single framework. This move aims to provide reliable data regarding land location, usage, and infrastructure development to help the government manage the scale and complexity of the growing city.
To support these efforts, Lagos is expanding its digital mapping infrastructure using detailed mapping data, orthophotos, and LiDAR imagery. The state is also exploring artificial intelligence applications for its digital mapping data to enhance monitoring and decision-making processes.
