Lagos State launches digital health platform and blood safety pact

The Lagos State government unveiled the inaugural Lagos Digital Health Innovation competition, showcasing solutions for emergency care, health insurance, sickle‑cell management, neonatal survival, medication adherence and post‑hospital care. Commissioner for Health Prof. Akin Abayomi highlighted the ongoing rollout of the Lagos Smart Health Information Platform (SHIP), now about 30 % complete in public facilities and slated for private sector expansion, aiming to synchronise patient records, enhance AI‑driven planning and ensure cyber‑security.

In a related move, Lagos signed a five‑year Blood Screening and Certification Concession Agreement with approved concessionaires and original equipment manufacturers. The pact mandates that every unit of blood collected in the state be screened for HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and syphilis using internationally recognised standards, thereby reducing the diagnostic window period and improving patient safety. Prof. Abayomi urged residents to donate blood voluntarily, stressing its vital role for mothers, newborns and emergency patients.
