Lagos State Police investigate cyberbullying and extortion allegations

The Lagos State Police Command is conducting multiple investigations into misconduct and criminal allegations.

In one case, police arrested a man in the Alakuko area of Lagos following petitions from religious leaders. The suspect is accused of cyberbullying and making disparaging remarks about Islamic and Christian clerics. He was also reportedly wanted in Kwara State for similar allegations involving other religious figures. The investigation is being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Yaba.

Separately, the Command has launched an investigation into officers from the Makinde Divisional Headquarters following a viral video. The footage allegedly shows officers extorting N20,000 from a dispatch rider by detaining his motorcycle. The involved officers have reported to the Command Headquarters for questioning as part of the probe directed by Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani.
