Lagos State prepares for National Community Food Bank implementation

The Lagos State Government has begun intensive preparations for the National Community Food Bank (NCFB) Programme. This initiative, led by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, aims to provide nutritional support to vulnerable children, mothers, and food-insecure households.

A multi-stakeholder Steering Committee recently met in Ikeja to establish an implementation framework. The meeting included representatives from various government ministries, local governments, religious leaders, and international development partners.

Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, noted that Primary Healthcare Centres will act as vital access points. These centers will be used to identify eligible beneficiaries through nutrition screening, facilitate enrollment, and provide counseling, ensuring food assistance complements clinical medical treatments.
