Lagos State proposes new wastewater and sludge management rates

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), has proposed a new structure of rates and charges for wastewater and faecal sludge management. The proposal was presented to the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO) during a meeting in Alausa, Ikeja, to improve institutional coordination and establish a sustainable financial framework for the sector.

General Manager of LSWMO, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, stated that the proposed tariff structure is essential for managing the increasing wastewater generation caused by the state’s growing population and rapid urbanization. The initiative aims to provide greater clarity for property owners, businesses, and service providers while ensuring compliance with environmental and sanitation standards.

LASWARCO Executive Secretary, Mrs. Bukola Adeyemo, welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the necessity of a regulatory framework that protects public health and the environment while ensuring effective service delivery.
