Lagos State Sports Trust Fund expands grassroots programmes

The Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF) has launched an expansion of its grassroots programmes, moving beyond football to develop talent in various other sports. To support this initiative, the fund distributed sports equipment to the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across Lagos State.

LSSTF Chairman Enitan Oshodi stated that the initiative aims to address the needs of Lagos’ large youth population through broader investment in sports. The fund is also training school games masters and appointing Senior Special Advisers to local government chairmen to monitor equipment use and strengthen community engagement.

Previous achievements of the LSSTF include the renovation of the Mobolaji Johnson Indoor Sports Hall, squash courts, and an Olympic-size swimming pool, as well as the distribution of equipment to over 1,000 public primary schools and hundreds of secondary schools. The fund also focuses on training state athletes and coaches and supporting disability games.
