Lagos State targets $1 trillion economy by 2052

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a roadmap to grow the state's economy to nearly $1 trillion by 2052. Speaking at a Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce meeting, the governor identified infrastructure development, technology, human capital investment, and business-friendly policies as the primary drivers for this goal.

Sanwo-Olu noted that while Lagos occupies only 0.45 percent of Nigeria's landmass, it attracts between 60 and 70 percent of the nation's foreign direct investment. To sustain this, the administration is focusing on simplifying regulatory processes and improving land transaction efficiency to bolster investor confidence.

In a related strategic shift, the Lagos State Government has introduced a new framework to assess the long-term economic impact of completed state projects. Moving beyond simple completion metrics, the state will now use a monitoring and evaluation framework to measure how investments in sectors such as transportation, health, and education contribute to job creation, poverty reduction, and overall GDP growth.
