Lagos State University condemns assault of student in viral video
Lagos State University (LASU) has issued a statement condemning the assault of a student at a privately owned hostel located outside the university premises. The incident, which involved students from the College of Medicine in Ikeja, gained widespread attention after a video of the assault went viral online.
In the video, a woman is seen repeatedly beating a younger girl while bystanders attempt to intervene. While the exact circumstances of the confrontation remain unclear, reports suggest the woman may have been confronting her daughter’s roommate.
The university management stated that the assaulted student reported the matter to the police, and the situation is being handled by law enforcement authorities. LASU has also initiated internal disciplinary processes against those involved in accordance with institutional regulations.
In a statement signed by Deputy Registrar Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, the university emphasized that any form of assault, intimidation, or harassment of students, staff, or visitors is unacceptable and violates the institution's core values. The university reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of its students.
