Lagos State University ranks 493rd globally in sustainability

Lagos State University (LASU) has retained its position as the top university in West Africa in the 2026 UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings. The institution achieved a significant global advancement, climbing to 493rd place among 2,016 participating universities from 110 countries.

This ranking represents a leap of 267 places from its 760th position in 2025. LASU has maintained its leadership in the West African region for five consecutive ranking cycles since joining the competition in 2022.

The UI GreenMetric assessment evaluates institutions based on environmental responsibility and governance rather than academic performance alone. Criteria include energy and climate change, waste management, water usage, transportation, infrastructure, and digitalization.
