Lagos State University reports ₦13 billion revenue growth

During the combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies of Lagos State University (LASU), outgoing Vice-Chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello reported a significant increase in the institution's internally generated revenue (IGR). Under her leadership from September 2021 to September 2025, the university's IGR grew from approximately ₦3 billion to ₦13 billion.

Olatunji-Bello attributed this fourfold increase to financial process automation and creative resource leveraging. She also noted that the university secured approval for 17 new academic programmes and saw high enrollment, with over 84,000 first-choice applicants for the 2026 UTME. Infrastructure developments during her tenure included over 50 projects, such as new hostels and an Academic Resource Centre.

In recognition of academic achievement, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu awarded ₦20 million each to the top graduating students from the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 sessions. The recipients, Ayilara Olaleye and Adebanjo Oluolamide, achieved CGPAs of 4.96 and 4.97, respectively.
