Lagos State upgrades water pumps at Iju and Akute to increase supply

The Lagos State Government has begun installing new pumps at the Iju Headworks and Akute Water Intake stations as part of an eight‑month rehabilitation programme running from February to October 2026. Funded by the state, the project replaces and upgrades critical pumping systems to boost water production, reduce downtime and improve the reliability of public water supply.

Lagos Water Corporation Managing Director Mukhtaar Tijani said the upgrades align with the corporation’s strategic plan and Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu’s goal of expanding access to safe, potable water for millions of residents. Upon completion, the upgraded facilities are expected to increase water output and enhance service delivery across Lagos State.
