Lagos University Teaching Hospital doctors start indefinite strike over welfare issues

Resident doctors at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) began an indefinite strike on July 20, demanding the completion of a long‑delayed renovation of their residential quarters, payment of salaries owed to newly recruited doctors, and the restoration of call‑duty meals. The doctors say the renovation has been stalled for about 18 months, forcing many to sleep in cars or hospital lounges while treating patients.

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) president, Dr Omogbolahan Adenuga, urged the federal government to release funds to finish the housing project and to have the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) enrol the new doctors so they can receive their pay. The strike highlights concerns over doctors' welfare and could disrupt patient care at the major Lagos teaching hospital.
