Laguna de Alegría water levels drop due to drought

The water level of Laguna de Alegría, located in the crater of the Tecapa volcano in the Usulután department, has experienced a significant reduction. This decline is attributed to a meteorological drought characterized by high temperatures and a deficit in rainfall across eastern El Salvador.

Local residents report that the water volume has decreased to extreme levels, exposing much of the surrounding terrain. The lack of precipitation has also impacted nearby springs, streams, and rivers, forcing local families to purchase water to meet their basic needs.
