Laguna Region concludes 2025-2026 agricultural cycle
The 2025-2026 agricultural cycle has officially concluded in the Distrito de Riego 017 of the Laguna Region. According to the National Water Commission (Conagua), the cycle utilized 745.86 million cubic meters of water extracted from the Lázaro Cárdenas dam to irrigate 40,066 hectares of crops.
This usage represents approximately 99.4 percent of the 750 million cubic meters authorized by the Technical Committee for the Operation of Hydraulic Works. The remaining 4.14 million cubic meters will stay in the reservoir to assist in future hydraulic planning.
Amidst these seasonal transitions, the third Metropolitan Water Forum will be held in Torreón on August 23. Organized by El Canto al Agua, the forum will bring together academics and environmentalists to discuss critical regional water challenges, including the overexploitation of the local aquifer, the implications of the Fermachem project, and the legal protections established by Sentence 543.
