Lahaina man identified as victim of fatal single-vehicle crash

The Maui Police Department has identified 18-year-old Manuel Olivas as the victim of a fatal single-vehicle crash in Lahaina. The incident occurred on September 23, 2026, near the intersection of Honoapiʻilani Highway and Kāʻanapali Parkway.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Olivas was driving a white 2000 Chevrolet Silverado at high speed in the southbound inner lane when he lost control. The vehicle left the roadway, descended an embankment, and struck a tree. Olivas was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Speed is considered a contributing factor, though the involvement of drugs or alcohol remains under investigation. This incident marks the ninth traffic fatality in Maui County for 2026.
