Lahden Pelicans set for historic Auroraliiga debut
The Lahden Pelicans women's ice hockey team is set to make its historical debut in the Auroraliiga this Saturday against TPS. The club has achieved a rapid ascent, rising from the third-tier Suomi-sarja to the top division within just two years.
Head coach Petteri Hirvonen, who was recruited by owner Pasi Nurminen two years ago, has been central to this progression. Hirvonen noted that while the team dominated previous levels, including a 16–3 aggregate victory over RoKin in the recent playoffs, the competition in the Auroraliiga will present a significantly higher level of difficulty.
The team's rise follows a period of dominance in the Mestiks league, where Hirvonen remarked that the team often felt they were playing in the wrong league due to the large skill gaps between them and their opponents.
