Lahor Dam in East Java Reopens Car Access for Public
Perum Jasa Tirta I (PJT I) announced that cars may again travel across the Lahor Dam in Malang Regency from 04:00 to 22:00 local time. The decision follows community feedback received during an August 1 public hearing and aims to balance local mobility needs with dam safety. Drivers must still use a tap‑card system and pay the standard fee, while two‑wheel vehicles remain free for residents of the five surrounding villages.
Police officials clarified that the dam remains officially closed to four‑wheel vehicles under normal conditions. It can be opened on an emergency basis if a major incident blocks the main Blitar‑Malang highway, allowing cars and trucks to pass temporarily. The arrangement is intended to prevent accidents on the aging structure, which is over fifty years old and requires ongoing maintenance.
