Lai Chau Airport planning proposed with 8,633 billion VND investment

The Ministry of Construction has requested feedback from the Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee regarding the detailed planning for the Lai Chau Airport for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision extending to 2050.

According to research by the Transport Design Consulting Corporation (TEDI), the airport is planned to be upgraded to ICAO 4C standards. The facility is intended for dual-use, serving both civilian and military purposes, with an estimated total investment of approximately 8,633 billion VND. The project will be located across the Tan Uyen and Muong Khoa communes, covering a total area of approximately 171.70 hectares.

The development is divided into two phases. Between 2021 and 2030, the airport aims to reach a design capacity of 0.3 million passengers and 1,000 tons of cargo annually, capable of handling narrow-body aircraft such as the Airbus A320, A321, and Boeing B737. By 2050, the vision is to increase capacity to 1.5 million passengers and 4,000 tons of cargo per year, expanding the apron to at least six aircraft positions.
