Lai Ching-te announces military combat allowances and civil servant pay raises

President Lai Ching-te has announced significant pay increases for military personnel and civil servants to bolster national defense and recognize professional expertise. During a visit to the 234th Brigade in Taichung, Lai revealed that a new “third type of combat unit allowance” will be implemented starting July 1. This measure provides an additional 4,000 TWD per month to personnel in units below the brigade level that provide combat sustainability.

Under the new policy, conscripted soldiers serving in combat units will receive the same combat allowances as volunteer personnel. Additionally, military, civil service, and education personnel will see an increase of 2,000 TWD each for professional and managerial allowances starting in July. Furthermore, a 4% salary increase for these sectors is scheduled for January next year.

Lai stated that these adjustments aim to create a more reasonable system that reflects the responsibilities, risks, and professionalism of service members. He emphasized that improving compensation is a vital investment in strengthening national defense capabilities and ensuring that those protecting the country can support their families.
