Laika announces first animated feature film in seven years

Laika has announced its first feature film in seven years, titled ‘Wildwood’, which is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026. The studio, known for stop-motion works such as ‘Coraline’ and ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’, has not released a new film since ‘Missing Link’ in 2019.

Based on the novel by Colin Meloy and illustrated by Carson Ellis, the story follows Prue McKeel. After her brother Mac is taken by crows, Prue must venture into the ‘Impassable Wilderness’, a mysterious forest near Portland, Oregon. The narrative features an anthropomorphic animal world divided by a civil war between avian principalities and coyote soldiers.
