Laika Studios unveils trailer for ambitious stop-motion film Wildwood
Laika Studios has released new trailers for its upcoming stop-motion feature, Wildwood, directed by Travis Knight. Based on the fantasy novel by Colin Meloy, the film follows Prue McKeel as she enters a hidden forest near Portland, Oregon, to rescue her brother from a murder of crows.
Knight has described the project as the studio’s most ambitious production to date, featuring 136 different locations, 231 physical puppets, and 54 main characters. The film is reported to have a runtime of approximately 139 minutes, which would make it the longest stop-motion animated feature ever produced, surpassing the record held by Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.
The production features a high-profile voice cast including Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Awkwafina, and Richard E. Grant. Wildwood is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 23, 2026.
