Laird Ruehlen announces candidacy for Campbell River City Council

Laird Ruehlen has announced his candidacy for the Campbell River City Council. A resident of nearly fifty years and a former two-term councillor, Ruehlen is a retired school principal with a thirty-year career in education.

His campaign focuses on several key community issues, including downtown safety through coordinated policing and social supports, affordability, and minimizing tax increases. Ruehlen also aims to increase citizen input via advisory committees, ensure development aligns with the Official Community Plan, and prioritize recreation infrastructure. He has expressed opposition to party politics and ‘slate’ campaigns in local elections, pledging to remain independent and accountable.
