Lakambini Chiu charged with 124 counts of qualified theft

Lakambini “Lakam” Chiu, the elder sister of Filipino actress Kim Chiu, is facing 124 counts of qualified theft involving approximately PHP 44.4 million in corporate funds. The Quezon City prosecutor’s office issued a resolution finding probable cause, leading to the formal filing of criminal information on July 15, 2026.

The charges stem from financial discrepancies discovered at House of Little Bunny Philippines, Inc. (HOLB), a handbag brand co-founded by the sisters. Kim Chiu, the company’s president and majority stockholder, reported noticing unusually large and unauthorized withdrawals from joint business accounts starting in mid-2025.

According to the prosecutor’s resolution, Lakambini allegedly exploited her authority over the company’s daily finances to divert funds for personal use. While Kim Chiu alleged the money was used for casino gambling and personal debts, Lakambini disputed the account, claiming the funds were lost in a failed casino-related business venture. The prosecutor noted that the evidence established Lakambini unlawfully appropriated the funds, fully aware they did not belong to her.
