Lake Albano faces severe water crisis in Italy

Lake Albano, near Castel Gandolfo, is facing a severe water crisis. Monitoring data from the Central Apennine District Basin Authority (AUBAC) and the ANBI Water Resources Observatory indicates a total water level loss of over 7 meters in the last decade, with a specific drop of 117 centimeters recorded between 2024 and the end of 2025. This decline is attributed to rainfall deficits, rising temperatures, and high extraction pressure.

To address these challenges, the ‘Stati Generali dell’acqua e del territorio’ (General States of Water and Territory) will be held on October 16, 2026, in Castel Gandolfo. Promoted by the Lago di Castel Gandolfo Association, the summit aims to foster cooperation between the Italian Parliament, the Lazio Region, local municipalities, water authorities, and health institutions. The event will focus on sustainable development and the presentation of strategic results achieved by AUBAC and ANBI to safeguard the lake's ecosystem.
