Lake Balaton: Invasive species removal and thermal bath maintenance

Authorities at Lake Balaton have removed approximately 1.5 tons of invasive dwarf perch from the Keleti-Bozót canal, also known as the Fonyód trench. Using specialized electric fishing equipment that temporarily stuns fish to prevent injury, the Balaton Fisheries Nonprofit Zrt. successfully extracted the invasive species while releasing native fish back into the water. Experts are calling on local anglers to report any sightings of dwarf perch clusters to help maintain ecological balance.

In related regional news, two thermal baths near Lake Balaton have announced scheduled maintenance closures. Marcali Medical Bath will close from October 26 to November 1 for water replacement, followed by a period where the steam cabin and sauna will be unavailable due to renovations aimed at creating a new wellness section. Additionally, Kehida Thermal in Kehidakustány will undergo its annual maintenance shutdown from December 7 to December 9, affecting both the baths and associated accommodations.
