Lake Biwa landscapes featured in Kazuaki Fukunaga art exhibition

Kazuaki Fukunaga, a 69-year-old artist from Higashiomi, is holding a colored pencil art exhibition at Cafe & Gallery Zen in Hikone. The exhibition features 37 colored pencil drawings depicting the natural beauty of Lake Biwa, including landscapes such as Chikubu Island and the cherry blossoms of Kaizu Osaki.

Fukunaga, who also practices ‘fishcraft’—a unique method of carving wooden fish to preserve the memory of trout and char caught during fly fishing—began his transition to colored pencil art in 2021 following a shoulder injury. The exhibition also includes six fishcraft pieces featuring species like char and rainbow trout. A gallery talk titled ‘Finally Finding My Expression’ is scheduled for August 22.
