Lake Bolsena fireworks criticized by Enpa for environmental impact
The National Animal Protection Agency (Enpa) in Viterbo has criticized the use of fireworks on Lake Bolsena, describing the practice as an ‘environmental disaster.’ The protest follows celebrations in Capodimonte where fireworks were launched directly from the water.
Enpa claims that these displays release heavy metals, barium, perchlorates, and plastics into the lake ecosystem. They also warned that the noise causes extreme distress to local wildlife, potentially leading to birds abandoning nests or dying from shock. The agency suggested that local administrations adopt silent, zero-impact alternatives such as drones or laser shows to protect the fragile lacustrine environment.
