Lake Charles offers free family movie nights in August

Mayor Marshall Simien revived the "Movies with the Mayor" series, providing two free family‑friendly screenings in Lake Charles. The first showing of the live‑action adventure *How to Train Your Dragon* took place on Saturday, August 8, at the Rosa Hart Theatre in the Lake Charles Event Center. A second screening of Disney’s *The Emperor’s New Groove* was scheduled for Saturday, August 15, with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. and the film starting at 5 p.m. Admission was free, though snacks could be purchased.

The events were organized by the City of Lake Charles Recreation & Parks Department and were promoted as affordable summer entertainment for residents, with a reminder that anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
