Lake Constance rescue operations: drowning, sinking raft and oil spill
On Monday 3 August 2026 multiple emergencies occurred on Lake Constance near Bregenz. An 87‑year‑old woman swimming with a aid fell into the water, lost consciousness and was rescued by two bystanders who performed CPR, restored her pulse and handed her to emergency services. She was stabilised and taken to Landeskrankenhaus Bregenz.
Later that evening, at about 19:11, a fire‑boat responded to a report of a man‑oeuvrable‑in‑operable boat. Crews found a raft carrying seven people taking on water and sinking. All passengers were lifted to safety; no injuries were reported. Around the same time a small motor‑oil leak from a sailboat created a roughly 40 m² oil slick on the lake surface, which firefighters contained.
In the early hours of Tuesday 4 August, a reed fire of about 30 m² broke out on the Bregenz lakeshore. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. Across all incidents, no injuries were recorded.
