Lake Country opens new trail network and Beacon Park
A new network of trails and outdoor amenities officially opened in the Summit at Lakestone neighbourhood in Lake Country on Friday, Sept. 25. The expansion includes the Beacon Hill Trail, Summit Trail, and Wetland Loop Trail Extension.
Central to the development is Beacon Park, a new trailhead park and pavilion located at the community’s highest elevation. The park offers 360-degree panoramic views of the surrounding area and lakes. The project preserves 250 acres of natural space that will remain undeveloped.
Lake Country Mayor Blair Ireland noted that the original 2012 plan aimed for 24 kilometres of trails, but the MacDonald Development Corporation (MDC) expanded the scope to nearly 29 kilometres. The ceremony, held despite rainy conditions, celebrated the addition of 7.5 kilometres of new trails.
