Lake Dojran attracts health tourists from Serbia

The medicinal properties of Lake Dojran continue to attract significant interest, particularly from tourists in neighboring Serbia. Local residents report that the water remains highly sought after for its health benefits, specifically due to the presence of iodine resulting from seasonal algae blooms during the summer.

Visitors include families with preschool-aged children and elderly individuals seeking relief from various health conditions. Local boat operator Toni Izov notes that some Serbian pediatricians in Belgrade have even recommended fifteen-day stays in Dojran for their patients. Tourists from cities such as Leskovac, Niš, and Šabac frequently visit for therapeutic purposes, including treatments for throat, tonsil, and spinal issues.

Local observations highlight the lake's clarity, with visibility reaching up to two meters deep, and a consistent green hue that persists even in deeper sections during August.
