Lake Garda region unveils tourism controls and bike‑path redevelopment

In the town of Sirmione on Lake Garda, authorities have introduced a new strategy paper, "Sirmione 2026," outlining measures such as expanded pedestrian zones, increased security staff and additional resident parking. The plan stops short of the more restrictive proposals previously suggested, like visitor‑reservation systems or entrance fees.

A recent analysis by the Italian research institute Sociometrica highlighted the economic weight of tourism in the Lake Garda area, ranking eight local municipalities among Italy’s top‑100 for per‑capita tourism revenue. Sirmione placed fifth in that list, underscoring the region’s importance to the national tourism economy.

Meanwhile, the Province of Trentino purchased the historic Casa della Trota near Riva del Garda for €2.3 million to facilitate the construction of a new 300‑metre lakeside segment of the "Ciclovia del Garda" bike route. The plan retains the 18th‑century core of the former restaurant while demolishing later, dilapidated annexes, and aims to complete the broader bike‑path network by 2026 using European recovery funds.
