Lake Garda launches candidacy for Italian Capital of Culture 2029

The Bardolino municipality has launched a formal candidacy for the Lake Garda region to become the ‘Italian Capital of Culture 2029’. The project aims to transform the area from a major tourist destination into a cultural laboratory focused on shared identity, innovation, and community participation.

The candidacy dossier, curated by architect Daniela Cavallo, was submitted to the Ministry of Culture on September 23. The initiative seeks to treat the entire lake as an integrated cultural system, transcending administrative and regional boundaries. The proposal has received formal support from over 160 entities, including 37 municipalities across three regions, as well as various institutions, universities, and provincial administrations from Veneto, Mantua, and Trento.
